The foundation of my teaching philosophy is to inspire independent learning through meaningful musical experiences, whether they occur on stage, in a lesson, playing with friends, or practising at home. My goal is to teach in such a way that students can continue developing their performance skills independently when they are no longer taking lessons. In order to become independent learners, it is important for piano students to develop strong general musicianship skills such as sight-reading, ear training, theory, and improvisation in addition to performing repertoire.
Along with independent learning, my goal for each student is to not only acquire the ability to continue learning, but also the desire to pursue further development and enjoyment of music making at the piano. Independence and confidence can be developed through the involvement of the student in the learning process and allowing them to achieve successful, meaningful music performing experiences—in and beyond the piano lesson.
